George DemirisGeorge Demiris, PhD
Program Director
Dr. Demiris is the lead of the CIPCT program as well as the Principal Investigator of the federal grant currently supporting CIPCT. He holds a joint appointment in Nursing and Medicine. Dr. Demiris’ research focuses on technology and aging, and the use of telehealth technologies to improve home care and hospice. He teaches NSG 540/MEBI 581 Telehealth Applications.
Nick AndersonNick Anderson, PhD
Program Faculty
Dr. Anderson has appointments in the Department of Medical Education and Biomedical Informatics as well as the Department of Medical History and Ethics. His areas of interest are research information systems, clinical data sharing, research policy and bioethics.
Carol Boston-FleischhauerCarol Boston-Fleischhauer, JD, MS, BSN
Program Instructor
Carol Boston-Fleischhauer has taught several CIPCT courses for many years. Her area of expertise is in the management of care systems. She currently teaches the NURS 524-527/MEBI 574-577 series of courses addressing care systems management, clinical effectiveness, organizational effectiveness and access & utilization.
John GennariJohn Gennari, PhD
Program Faculty
Dr. Gennari is an Associate Professor in Biomedical & Health Informatics. His area of specialization is in data and knowledge representation, especially ontologies and semantic web technologies. He has taught graduate courses in BHI since 2002.
Bill LoberBill Lober, MD, MS
Program Faculty
Dr. Lober holds a joint appointment in the Schools of Medicine, Nursing and Public Health. Dr. Lober serves as the co-Director for the Clinical Informatics Research Group (CIRG) and is interested in clinical informatics as well as public health and population based informatics.
David MasudaDavid Masuda, MD
Program Faculty
Dr. Masuda has been a CIPCT Faculty member since the program's inception, providing expertise both in the classroom and in the development of the CIPCT curriculum. Currently he teaches NMETH 527/MEBI 587 Introduction to Health Informatics and Systems Thinking as well as NMETH 523/MEBI 583 Project Management and System Analysis for Health Informatics. He also teaches in the Biomedical Health Informatics and Master's of Health Administration programs.
Huong NguyenHuong Nguyen, PhD, RN
Program Faculty
Dr. Nguyen is one of the CIPCT Academic Advisors and has also served as a Thesis Advisor for many CIPCT students. Dr. Nguyen also teaches NMETH 526/MEBI 586 Patient-Centered Health Communication Technologies. Her area of expertise is in research related to chronically ill adults and older adults, applied informatics, and behavioral epidemiology.
Wanda PrattWanda Pratt, PhD
Program Faculty
Dr. Pratt is an Associate Professor in Biomedical & Health Informatics as well as the Information School. Her research is motivated by the problems patients face in finding, using, and managing information. Her research includes studying patients' work to understand their problems, developing new types of technology to address those problems, and evaluating the technology with patients.
Hilaire ThompsonHilaire Thompson, PhD, RN, CNRN, FAAN
Program Faculty
Dr. Thompson is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Biobehavioral Nursing and Health Systems in the School of Nursing. Her areas of research interest include fall prevention in older adults, traumatic brain injury, and measurement and improvement of outcomes. Dr. Thompson has served as Thesis and Scholarly Project Chair for several CIPCT students.
Jim TufanoJim Tufano, PhD, MHA
Program Faculty
Dr. Tufano is an instructor and advisor in the CIPCT program. He currently teaches NMETH 524/MEBI 584 Health Information Systems and the EHR. His areas of interest include applied clinical informatics, ICT-mediated patient-provider and provider-provider interaction, chronic disease self-management support, comparative effectiveness research, and qualitative methods.
Fred WolfFred Wolf, PhD
Program Faculty
Dr. Wolf is a Professor and Chair of the Department of Medical Education and Biomedical Informatics in the School of Medicine. He also has appointments in Health Services & Epidemiology and the School of Public Health. His research areas include clinical reasoning and decision making, dissemination and evaluation of new technology, evidence-based medicine, comparative effectiveness research and training, and evaluation of clinical and translational research interventions and training.
Brenda ZierlerBrenda Zierler, PhD, RN, RVT
Program Faculty
Dr. Zierler was the Principal Investigator on the HRSA grant which founded the CIPCT program and currently acts as the Academic or Thesis/Project Advisor to many CIPCT students. Her research explores the relationships between the delivery of health care and outcomes—at both the patient and system level.
