Clinical Informatics and Patient-Centered Technologies (CIPCT) is an Online Master of Science (MS) degree program offered out of the University of Washington’s (UW) Schools of Nursing and Medicine. The program was created by a federal grant in 2004 that established and supported the program for several years as courses were developed and the first cohorts of students recruited. Initially, the CIPCT program was not available beyond Washington state due to in-person meeting requirements.
In July 2008, the UW School of Nursing was awarded a second federal grant to make the CIPCT MS program fully accessible online to students in the WWAMI Region (Washington, Wyoming, Alaska, Montana, and Idaho) and consequently to the entire United States.
This program was developed with faculty partners from Biomedical and Health Informatics (BHI), Health Information Management, Health Administration, Computer Science and Engineering at the University of Washington, as well as funding provided through the Division of Nursing (DN), Bureau of Health Professions (BHPr), Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA), Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS).
