JumpStart

The CIPCT JumpStart Program is intended to provide students support and guidance in preparing for the CIPCT program from a technological standpoint.  JumpStart activities will help you to assess your current level of skill and give you a baseline from which you can improve.

JumpStart can be useful to both prospective students and students already accepted into the program.  It is not necessary to complete JumpStart activities before applying, however you may find it helpful as it will afford you extra time to practice and improve your skills.  All CIPCT students are required to complete all activities before Orientation in September – see below for details.

Current Students

In order to be successful in the CIPCT program, students need to be comfortable with and fairly proficient in the use of computers.  As a CIPCT student, you will be responsible for:

  • Maintaining your computer in good working condition, including performing maintenance, backing up files, updating and running virus and spyware programs, managing your home network/connection to the internet, and installing and updating peripheral devices such as web cams and microphones.
  • Troubleshooting computer issues on your own or with the help of your peers.
  • Improving your skills in weak areas as assessed by the JumpStart program outlined below.

Your future employers will expect that you to possess these skills.  Use your time in the program to improve and expand on your abilities in this area before entering the workforce as an informaticist.

All necessary instructions and documents are found within the JumpStart Checklist.   All activities should be performed in the order they are listed and all deliverables completed no later than September 15th.

The activities in this JumpStar Program should be completed without assistance from your family members, friends, or co-workers.  As a CIPCT student, you will need to learn to troubleshoot computer issues on your own or, occasionally, with the help of your peers.

If you are stuck and unable to proceed, you may call Jaime Jenkins at 206-897-1685 or uwcipct@uw.edu for assistance.
